The Pebble Story of Patience and Wisdom

Once, a ten-year-old boy enjoyed daily walks with his father to a nearby hill. One bright morning, he eagerly proposed a race to the top, and his father agreed.

Both sprinted uphill, but before long, the father stopped. The boy, looking back, asked, "Why did you stop? Have you already given up?"

The father replied, "No, I'm just clearing some pebbles from my shoes."

The boy, wanting to win, retorted, "I have pebbles in my shoes too, but I can't stop now. I'll take them out once I reach the top!" And off he ran, determined.

As the boy ran, however, the pebbles started pricking his feet, and his speed began to falter. Meanwhile, his father, having removed the pebbles, continued steadily. Soon, he caught up with his son, whose pace had slowed to a painful limp.

When his father called out, "Why don't you take out those pebbles now?" the boy stubbornly replied, "I don't have time!"

Not long after, the boy's feet hurt too much to continue. His father, seeing his son in pain, gently removed the boy's shoes and took him back home to tend to his injuries.

Once the pain subsided, the father explained, "Son, sometimes stopping to handle small problems saves us from much greater pain later. Ignoring issues may seem like it helps us keep going, but they usually become bigger and harder to bear."
